Pre-Workout Suggestions Feb 26, 2010
At Everythingantiaging.com we recommend that before any type of exercise a pre-workout meal is a must to get your body prepared. Here are some ideas for a great pre-workout supplement.
About 30 to 45 minutes before you exercise try and consume at least 20 grams of a fast digesting whey protein and at least 20 to 40 grams of some slow digesting carbohydrates. I know that it seems odd to take a fast acting whey protein along with slow digesting carb but, amazingly enough there is a good reason.
Taking a whey protein helps to get the amino acids from the protein into your blood faster. This means they will be available sooner to help fuel you through your exercise program and they also help to stop muscle breakdown.
Now for the slow digesting carbs, because they enter your bloodstream slower actually in the form of glucose they help insulin levels to remain low. This means you will actually burn fat first and have a lot more energy through your workout.
It is important to make sure that you are consuming the correct type of carbs before you exercise. Unfortunately there are good carbs and bad carbs. Some types of good carbs are:
Apples
Oranges
Pears
Berries
Oatmeal
Wheat germ
Whole wheat pastas
Sweet potatoes
By taking a slow digesting carb supplement for instance you keep your fat burning and energy levels at their peak. This will help you to build more stamina and exercise longer and harder.
