Don’t mix OTC pain reliever with your Cold and flu medicines Nov 24, 2009
Thanks to this year’s hysteria surrounding Swine Flu, millions of people worldwide are searching high and low for over-the-counter cold and flu medicine. But buyer beware, accidentally overdosing on acetominophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil and Motrin) can seriously effect you when taking both the painkiller and a cold and flu remedy that also contains the same ingredients listed above.
According to many doctors and pharmacists nationwide, this is the most common, and one of the most dangerous medication errors people can make, and it happens most often every year! The following list contains over-the-counter cold and flu remedies that contain acetominophen, ibuprofen or both as one of the main ingredients.
- Comtrex
- Nyquil
- Dayquil
- Dristan Cold
- Nurofen
- Contac
- Alka Seltzer Plus
With acetominophen or ibuprofen is in a lot of combo cold and flu products as well as OTC pain relievers making it all to easy to overdose on either of the two ingredients. To prevent this mis-hap in medications be sure to check labels prior to taking the product and watch out for “multi symptom” OTC’s that may contain either of the two ingredients.
