Pre-Workout Suggestions Feb 26, 2010

Pre Workout Products

Pre Workout Products

At Everythingantiaging.com we recommend that before any type of exercise a pre-workout meal is a must to get your body prepared. Here are some ideas for a great pre-workout supplement.

About 30 to 45 minutes before you exercise try and consume at least 20 grams of a fast digesting whey protein and at least 20 to 40 grams of some slow digesting carbohydrates. I know that it seems odd to take a fast acting whey protein along with slow digesting carb but, amazingly enough there is a good reason.

Taking a whey protein helps to get the amino acids from the protein into your blood faster. This means they will be available sooner to help fuel you through your exercise program and they also help to stop muscle breakdown.

Now for the slow digesting carbs, because they enter your bloodstream slower actually in the form of glucose they help insulin levels to remain low. This means you will actually burn fat first and have a lot more energy through your workout.

It is important to make sure that you are consuming the correct type of carbs before you exercise. Unfortunately there are good carbs and bad carbs. Some types of good carbs are:

Apples

Oranges

Pears

Berries

Oatmeal

Wheat germ

Whole wheat pastas

Sweet potatoes

By taking a slow digesting carb supplement for instance you keep your fat burning and energy levels at their peak. This will help you to build more stamina and exercise longer and harder.

Make sure and look at all the pre-workout supplements available on EverythingAntiAging.com, we are sure to have something for you.

FDA Warning Consumers About Counterfeit Alli Feb 24, 2010

FDA Investigating Counterfeit Alli

FDA Investigating Counterfeit Alli

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is today warning consumers about a counterfeit and potentially harmful version of Alli 60mg capsules.

Preliminary laboratory tests conducted by GlaxoSmithKline – the maker of the FDA approved over-the-counter weight loss product, revealed that the counterfeit version did not contain orlistat, the active ingredient in Alli. Instead, the counterfeit product contained the controlled substance sibutramine. Sibutramine is a drug that should not be used in certain patient populations or without physician oversight. Sibutramine can also interact in a harmful way with other medications the consumer may be taking as well.

Consumers recently began reporting suspected counterfeit products as early as December, 2009. GSK has determined that the counterfeit product has been sold over the internet. However, there is no evidence at this time that the counterfeit Alli product has been sold through other channels, such as retail locations. GSK noted that the counterfeit Alli product looks similar to the authentic product, with just a few notable differences. The counterfeit Alli has:

 - Outer cardboard packaging is missing a “Lot” number or code.
 - Expiration date the includes month, day and year where authentic Alli  only lists the expiration as the month and year.
 - Packaging in plastic bottle that has a slightly taller and wider cap with  coarser ribbing than the genuine product.
 - Plain foil inner safety seal under plastic cap without any printed   words; whereas authentic Alli’s seal has printed “Sealed for Your  Protection”.
 - Contains larger capsules with a white powder, instead of small white  pellets.

Consumers who believe they have received counterfeit Alli are asked to contact the FDA’s office of Criminal Investigations.

Child Nutrition Programs Feb 18, 2010

New Standards To Be Set For Child Nutrition Programs

New Standards To Be Set For Child Nutrition Programs

Congress has stepped up its work on reauthorizing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s school lunch, school breakfast, and other child nutrition programs, a process that occurs about every five years. The programs were supposed to be reauthorized in 2009, but Congress passed a one-year extension. Activity on the reauthorization is being kicked off with the announcement of the President’s budget , major speeches by Administration officials, and he launch of the First Lady’s childhood obesity initiative.

Both Senate Agriculture Committee and the House Education and Labor Committee already have held several hearings and are writing their child nutrition bills, and individual Members of Congress are working on marker bills. The Committees and the Administration have indicated that they plan to finish the bill within the time frame of the existing budget resolution, which means the bill will need to be completed by late March/early April. This year’s child nutrition reauthorization is important for helping struggling families feed their children in these tough economic times. It also is a key way to address the sky-high rates of childhood obesity and children’s poor diets.

Paraben hidden in everyday products? Feb 16, 2010

Unfortunately this may be truer than you realize, if you are concerned with maintaining a healthy body it’s time to start reading ingredients even more carefully than ever. What are you looking for? Paraben, Paraben is a small group of chemicals used as preservatives in everything from food items to self hygiene items we use every day.   The name Paraben is commonly used on ingredient labels but, it can also be labeled as methylparaben, propyl-paraben, ethylparaben and benzylparaben.

Men need to be more concerned about this little added ingredient more than most women.

Be Aware of Paraben in Your Everyday Products

Be Aware of Paraben in Your Everyday Products

Paraben affects a male’s body in a similar manner to estrogen, yes estrogen the female hormone. In men this can lead to higher body fat levels, decreased muscle mass and in extreme cases gynomastia.

For men who are maintaining a healthy lifestyle this can increase health risks as well as overall physique. Here is a small list of products that commonly contain Paraben or Paraben Ingredients:

Hygiene Products:

  • Some soaps and toothpastes
  • Some shampoos and conditioners
  • Some deodorants
  • Some lotions and creams
  • Some eye, ear and nose drops
  • Some bandages
  • Some sunscreens

Food products:

  • Some marinated fish products
  • Some salad dressings
  • Some mayonnaise products
  • Some mustard products
  • Some frozen dairy products
  • Some jams and jellies
  • Some baked goods and candies

Remember this list does not classify that all these products do have Paraben in them, this is just a list of the common ones that may have. You will have to research ingredients for yourself and make sure that the items you buy & use daily don’t have Paraben in them.

Childhood Obesity Initiative Announced Feb 12, 2010

Mobilize Together To Help Fight Obesity In Our Children

Mobilize Together To Help Fight Obesity In Our Children

For far too long, the nation’s response to childhood obesity has been by far very underwhelming, considering the massive impact obesity has on our nation’s citizens physical and fiscal health. Announced on Feb. 9th, 2010, First Lady Michelle Obama addressed our nation’s problem with stern clout and visibility to change and mobilize our children to combat obesity in our nation’s youth.

Helping to support parents efforts to feed their children well and get them engaged in physical activity will require not only working cooperatively with food and entertainment companies, but also calling on them to do better for our children. Beverage companies  for instance, have taken some notable steps to get sugary sodas out of schools and vending machines found within schools. Entertainment conglomerates like Nickelodeon and Disney are limiting the use of their characters on junk foods and running public service announcements, but should be pressed to remove junk food advertising from their television channels and other related media outlets.

This year alone, Congress must reauthorize the school lunch and other child nutriton programs – a key opportunity to improve the diets and health of millions of American children already struggling with obesity. The First Lady can help by working with Congress to fund the full $1 billion per year recommended in the President’s budget and urging them to move the bill quickly, so new reforms can be in place for the following school year.

How can EFA’s help overall health? Feb 11, 2010

EFA Supplements Help Promote Optimal Health

EFA Supplements Help Promote Optimal Health

Statistics show that over 60% of Americans are not getting enough of the health promoting Omega-3 fatty acids in the everyday foods that they eat. We all have heard that supplementing our diets with Omega 3 fatty acids has many heart health benefits but, did you know that EFA’s perform many vital functions on a cellular level?

A healthy diet with a good supply of EFA’s is essential for healthy looking skin because our skin cells are made new every day. The two types of EFA’s that are needed for health & healthy skin can be obtained through supplementation. Both of these EFA’s are polyunsaturated fats, one is alpha linolenic acid which belongs to the Omega-3 family, and the other is linoleic acid belonging to the Omega-6 family.

Most of us obtain a good amount of Omega-6 fats in our diets, specifically the EFA linoleic acid. This is because these fats are derived from common plants such as soybean, corn & safflower, which are widely available in our daily food supply. Most of us do not obtain sufficient Omega-3 fats in our diets specifically, the EFA alpha-linolenic acid. This is because these fats, which are found in flax seeds, walnuts and certain kinds of fish, are not as available in the everyday foods we eat.

The desired ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fats in the diet should be about 2:1. Statistics show that the ratio in most diets is closer to 10:1. This overall imbalance in fatty acids means excessive Omega-6 & insufficient Omega-3 ratios. This is maybe the cause of many diseases today, including cardiovascular disease, many cancers, most inflammatory diseases, and some psychological disturbances. Supplementing with flax seed oil can help to correct these health problems.

4 Winter Hand Healers Feb 5, 2010

4 Winter Hand Healers

Winter Hand Healing Tips

Try these simple tips to keep your hands looking down-right gorgeous year round!

1. Hydrate as you Lather. Washing often with antibacterial sanitizers that contain alcohol can dry out hands. In fact, even with soap, they can lose about 25% of their natural moisture with every rinse. To renew the suppleness of skin, use a milky, sulfate free soap instead or lock in moisture with a petrolatum rich lotion.

2. Cuticle Softness is Key. Heal ragged hangnails by massaging them with an oil based cream at morning and night to repair damage from dehydrating polish changes, filing and buffing. to neaten cuticles, gently push them back with an orangewood stick about once a week. trim away any stubborn remainders with a small nail clipper.

3. Bolster Nail Strength. Avoid polishes that have toluene, formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate, which weaken nails. And take a mini vacay from lacquer about one week out of every month. by doing so, you will help restore moisture and help keep your nails strong and healthy.

4. Even Out Skin Tone. After years and years of sun exposure, your skin can show visible signs of skin damage all over your body, including brown sun spots on your hands. To prevent them, apply an spf 30 or higher sunscreen on daily. If you already see damage then apply a product with exfoliating glycolic acid for smooth, flawless hands in no time flat!
